CRI – Italian Red Cross, Branch of Vicenza (Italy)

IFRC is composed of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the 190 individual National Societies. Each has its own legal identity and role, but they are all united by seven Fundamental Principles. These principles are humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. Each component of the Movement is committed to respect and uphold them.

The Federation inspires, facilitates and promotes all humanitarian activities carried out by its National Societies on behalf of the most vulnerable people.

Italian Red Cross (National Society) is divided in six fields and each one: 1. Health 2. Social Work 3. Civil Protection 4. Principles And Values 5. Youth. 6. Development.

The Italian RC provides trainings on first aid and psychosocial support, organises operative exercises and simulations in disaster response and disaster management issues and certifies staff and volunteers involved in disaster response activities.

It participated in many national complex emergency response operations and it is daily involved in disaster risk mitigation and monitoring. In the last ten years, among the several operations at national and international level in which ItRC has participated, there are for example Abruzzo earthquake 2009, Emilia earthquake 2012, Central Italy earthquake 2016, Liguria and Tuscany flash floods 2011 and 2014, Haiti earthquake 2010, Sri Lanka and Indonesia tsunami 2006. One of the main goals of all the different branches of the Italian Red Cross is to ensure an effective and timely response to national and international emergencies, through the education of communities and the development of an equally, effective and timely disaster response mechanism.

The branch of Vicenza has been delegated to participate to the CORE project, and hence represents the National Red Cross, having been one of the earlier branches to face the COVID emergency and having taken part to the L’Aquila earthquake first response.

In the CORE project, CRI:

  • is involved in all the WPs (except WP1);
  • coordinates, jointly with the Austrian Red Cross, the task 2.2.
